A Talk on the Three Gorges
You are cordially invited to a talk on the Three Gorges as a first event of China Today in the East Asian Library.
Time: Tuesday (2/5)11:45am-1:00pm
Place: East Asian Library, Wilson Library Subbasement, West Bank
The presentation is in conjunction with an award-winning film “Still Life (三峡好人)" showing at Oak Street Theater (7:15pm & 9:15pm on 2/9) and the exhibit “The Three Gorges” at the Minnesota Center for Photography. The presentation will be a combined slide show and talk, through Chinese and non-Chinese photographers' images, about the Three Gorges, the Dam project, and the relocation of over 1,500,000 people. A question and answer session will follow at the end.
The Three Gorges, a series of canyons on the Yangzi River , are some of China 's most spectacular natural wonders. It is also the site of China's most ambitious construction project since the Great Wall; The Three Gorges Dam, when completed, will span 1 ½ miles wide and stand more than 600 feet high. It will create a reservoir hundreds of feet deep and nearly 400 miles long. Like any large scale project, there are both positive and negative outcomes.
The East Asian Library will provide fresh tea and light Chinese treats in the spirit of celebrating the coming Chinese New Year.
